On Thursday, March 4, the women’s relay race took place at the Czech Nove Mesto as part of the eighth stage of the World Cup.
The Ukrainian national team until the middle of the race was among the contenders for both medals and victory, thanks to the excellent stages performed by Daria Blashko and Yulia Jim. In the third stage, Merkushina won a penalty circle, after which it was difficult to fight for victory. And that didn’t make sense either, because in the end the Ukrainian team was disqualified. The efforts of Elena Pidgrushnaya, who managed to take fourth place on the finish lap, were in vain.
Fourth place after Ukraine’s disqualification went to the Norwegian team. As befits the favorites, in the third stage the Norwegians went alone, but then Ida Lien became the anti-hero of the race for her team. Not only did he shoot for a long time, but he also earned a penalty circle. Martha Roiseland in the last stage could not perform a miracle.
We take advantage of the mistakes of the rivals of the Swedish and Belarusian teams. It was they who competed for gold and silver medals in the last loop, or rather Elvira Eberg and Elena Kruchinkina. In the final streak, Elvira overcame the Belarusian and gave the victory to her team. The third place was occupied by French women.
