The increase in the number of new cases of coronavirus infection is due, among other things, to the fact that people are losing vigilance, said the director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The World Health Organization this week for the first time in seven weeks began recording an increase in new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. The organization’s director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said this in a briefing on March 1, according to the WHO website.
“Remember I reported a decline in the virus for six weeks straight, but this is the first time in seven weeks that we have seen an increase,” he said. Notably, on February 26, the WHO recorded the largest daily increase in new COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks.
Ghebreyesus noted that the disease situation has worsened in America, Europe, Southeast Asia and the eastern Mediterranean.
“This is disappointing, but not surprising. We are working to better understand the increase in prevalence. This is due in part to weakening public health measures, the continued circulation of varieties, and the loss of surveillance of people. Vaccines they can save lives, but if countries depend only on vaccines, they are wrong, ”said the WHO director-general.
An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. March 11, 2020 World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.
The first vaccination against coronavirus in the world, on December 8, 2020, was launched by the United Kingdom. By March 1, according to Bloomberg, immunization campaigns had started in 107 countries. In Ukraine, vaccinations have been carried out since February 24. More than 3,000 people received injections.
