Before the start of the fight, the bookmakers considered Bruges the favorite in the match. And this is not surprising, the Belgians managed to bring a comfortable 1: 1 from Kiev and could well count on the final success in the home game.

Everyone and Mircea Lucescu understood that, having played an effective draw at home, his team would have to score an away goal, and Brugge could take a comfortable counterattack position.

The main question was when will the Dynamo start to open up and aggravate the situation at the gates of Bruges? From the beginning, or will you take a wait-and-see attitude? After the fight, it became clear that this question could be answered by looking at the team’s starting lineup. We did not see Popov in the center of the defense, and Gerson Rodríguez appeared on the flank instead of De Pena, but above all, the absence of Nikolai Shaparenko was surprising.

Shaparenko was Lucescu’s key midfielder throughout the fall and in such an important match he ended up on the bench.

The first 60 minutes of the game were quite boring. Dynamo did not open, chose a waiting position and Brugge was not in a hurry to attack with great forces, creating half chances from set pieces and overhangs from the flank.

In the 67th minute of the game, Lucescu began to move “his pieces” and make his plays. Shaparenko’s appearance on the field was a deliberate step, calculated so that the best Dynamo footballer could refresh and energize his team’s attacks.

And so it turned out. Nikolai’s departure changed the structure of Dynamo’s game in attacking formation. If Shepelev and Sidorchuk partly shared the defensive and offensive functions, being located next to the defense line, after this replacement, Sidorchuk, in the transition phase from defense to attack, began to descend the line towards his defenders centrals, and the tenth number performed much higher.

As a result, it was Shaparenko who landed the first really dangerous blow at Mignolet’s goal. After a minute and a half, we saw another knock from a great distance just above the door. Dynamo slowly began to pump and increase in speed, seeing that the resource of this Witches is already at its limit.

Lucescu realized where the weak point of this team was and began to push determinedly there. And the left flank turned out to be the weak point of the Bruges. It was there that the cool Karavaev came out instead of Kendzera, and it was there that Rodriguez moved during the goal attack.

In the area of the right semi flank an overload was formed, where at the same time were: Sidorchuk, Karavaev, Rodríguez and Tsygankov. Victor ran after the defenders, and it was Sobol who did not keep track of his opponent. It is becoming something of a tradition that this season Ukrainians playing abroad will help the Dynamo to one degree or another in European competitions.

Basically, this is all there is to analyze in this match from a tactical point of view. Dynamo waited patiently the entire game to throw his only lunge and score. Could Lucescu fly with such a game plan? Of course. And now the rhetoric of all journalists would be completely different. There would be many articles in which the Dynamo did not even dare to try to score a goal to go further. The Kyiv residents’ mentor made a cold calculation for the end of the clash, and it worked.

Separately, for such a game, I would like to single out the captain of Kiev Sergei Sidorchuk. This player put in a great deal of hard work. He had 5 interceptions, 4 tackles, 10 rebounds and won 8 of 11 martial arts. Buschan’s lack of scoring chances after the goal was scored once again underscores the fact that Sidorchuk did his job perfectly that night.
