European companies abandon Nord Stream 2 project

The financing of the project was stopped by the German Wintershall Dea, which invested 730 million euros in it.

The German company Wintershall Dea has stopped financing the Nord Stream-2 project. This is stated in the report on the company’s website.

“The group’s participation in the Nord Stream 2 project is limited to granting loans together with four other European energy companies (Engie, OMV, Shell and Uniper). Payments to the company under the Nord Stream 2 AG loan amount to 730 million euros and were completed before the revision of the recommendations to article 232 of the Act to fight US adversaries through sanctions (CAATSA), according to the report.

“No further payments are planned,” the company added.

The company’s management fears an “aggressive approach towards project implementers” by the United States, which has tightened sanctions against Nord Stream-2.

Please note that due to the US sanctions, 18 European companies have either already abandoned the project or are in the exit stage.

Despite this, construction of the gas pipeline continues.
