Ruslan Khomchak spoke about the difficult situation in Donbass
There are no grounds for any accusation against the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their failure to comply with the comprehensive ceasefire, Ruslan Khomchak said.
The aggravation and provocations in the area of operation of the Joint Forces in Donbas may be related to the recent decisions of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on sanctions. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Ruslan Khomchak, the press service of the Defense Ministry reported on Saturday, February 20.
He noted that, as a rule, the bombing of Ukrainian positions and peaceful settlements are observed on the eve of the Trilateral Contact Group meetings, as well as after the NSDC meetings.
According to Khomchak, the enemy is trying to create the illusion of bombing by the Ukrainian army. In particular, today the enemy attacked with mortars the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, after which they fired at the residential sector of Novgorodsky. Furthermore, from positions close to the occupied Gorlovka, the separatists fired at their own in the area of the gas distribution station, resulting in deaths and injuries.
“The situation on the line of contact in the area of the Joint Forces operation is generally stable and controlled. In the areas of withdrawal of forces and equipment, the regime of silence is observed,” Khomchak added.
He assured that the accusations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that they did not comply with the general ceasefire were without foundation.
Let us remember that on February 19, at a meeting of the Security and National Defense Council, the decision was made to impose sanctions on a series of legal entities and individuals, in particular, the People’s Deputy of the PLOZ Viktor Medvedchuk and his wife Oksana Marchenko . .
Today the Kremlin expressed concern about the sanctions against Medvedchuk. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, believes that the trend towards political reaction is gaining momentum in Ukraine. Also in Moscow, the sanctions against the head of the HLE were linked to US military assistance and suggested that Kiev would try to solve the problem in Donbas by force.
