Russia to increase length of new and rebuilt water supply systems in Crimea
In the Crimea, seawater desalination plants with a total capacity of 40 thousand cubic meters per day will be built.
The Russian government has extended the program for the development of annexed Crimea and Sevastopol until 2025 and has increased its funding from the federal budget by 112.5 billion rubles. One of the priorities of the program is to provide fresh water to the peninsula, reports RBC on Saturday, February 20.
It was indicated that the total funding of the program from all sources was increased by 116 billion rubles. – up to 1,374 trillion rubles, the volume of funding from the federal budget – in 112.5 billion rubles, up to 1,303 trillion rubles.
The publication notes that the extension of the “Crimean program” with an increase in its financial support was announced on February 9 by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin (in charge of Crimea) in a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
It is planned to increase the length of the new and reconstructed water supply systems in the peninsula, from 404 to 462.5 km, to build seawater desalination plants with a total capacity of 40 thousand cubic meters. m per day (20 thousand each for Crimea and Sevastopol), to build another port infrastructure facility in Crimea and an additional cultural facility in Sevastopol.
According to the updated program, in 2021-2025, about 600 billion rubles will be allocated, for which 550 projects will be built and reconstructed, among which are the necessary facilities for a “reliable water supply” to Crimea, infrastructure Crimean railway and entrances from the Tavrida highway to the southern coast of Crimea.
Recall that in Crimea there is a critical shortage of fresh water, so its supply to the inhabitants of the peninsula is limited. Lake Inkerman near Sevastopol and the Ayan Reservoir, which provided fresh water to Simferopol residents, have already dried up.
It also became known that Ukraine will complete the construction of the dam to exclude the entry of water into Crimea and improve measures for the recovery of the southern regions of the Kherson region.
