Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko bought the Pryamoy TV channel from former MP Volodymyr Makeenko. According to the politician, he has information that the publication is going to be closed and the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) could recommend imposing sanctions. Poroshenko himself said this on the air of the television channel, his words are reported by “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“I paid money, a lot of money that could go to charity, to other projects, even social projects, there are millions and millions to cover the debts of the channel and more,” said the former head of state, explaining that he received 18 reports on the impending closure of the television channel on February 17 at night.
Then, as the leader of the European Solidarity party said, on the morning of February 18, Makeyenko himself called him on the phone and asked for his help. In addition, Poroshenko on the air of “Direct” appealed to the current president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and reminded the head of state about the fate of his predecessor, Viktor Yanukovych.
“Vladimir Aleksandrovich, tomorrow in the Defense and National Security Council you may impose sanctions against the terrorist Poroshenko, but I strongly recommend that you carefully watch how Yanukovych ended, who tried to close Channel Five with such force, carefully follow the day. Let me tell you, it ended badly, ”Poroshenko said, adding that journalistic standards and freedom of expression will be maintained on the channel.
