The European Union is developing a strategy to introduce a “vaccination certificate” for citizens who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, for medical purposes and not for additional rights to owners.
At the same time, this document will not be the so-called vaccination passport. This statement was made in an interview with Augsburger Allgemeine by European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides.
“The difference is that the document we are thinking about will contain all the data related to vaccination. It will not only allow a differentiated review, whatever happens next. It will also give us an idea of the evolution of the virus. as well as possible side effects. So, we are talking about a medical document, “Kyriakides explained.
Privileges, such as the ability to travel freely, will not receive a “vaccination certificate,” he added.
As for the so-called COVID-19 vaccination passport, it should be developed globally, according to the EU. Kyriakides said negotiations on this within the World Health Organization are already underway.
“But the decision on such a document will have to be made by the EU heads of state and government,” he said.
