Law enforcement officers found the criminals who poured red paint on the Stepan Bandera monument in Lviv on February 5: they are two students aged 19 and 24.
The boys were arrested, suspicion was announced. This was reported on the website of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region. At the same time, PLOZH People’s Deputy Ilya Kiva called the vandals “heroes” and began to seek his contacts to intercede for them. After that, in Lviv they promised a “warm welcome” to the politician.
As the police said, the detainees are students from one of Lviv’s higher education institutions. Both suspects are from the Khmelnytsky region.
According to preliminary information, the material gain was the motive for the crime.
During searches of the students’ home on February 11, police found evidence of involvement in the crime.
The actions are qualified in Part 3 of Art. 297 (Abuse of a grave, other burial place or the body of the deceased) of the Penal Code Students face a prison sentence of up to seven years if a court proves their guilt.
