Sebastian Kurz mentioned Ukraine in a conversation about the fate of Nord Stream 2
The Austrian Chancellor believes that the Nord Stream 2 issue should not be seen through the prism of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to Navalny’s verdict.
The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a European project and Austria welcomes the position of the German government on the need to complete it. This was stated by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in an interview with Welt am Sonntag, published on Sunday, February 6.
“I do not consider it appropriate to link the necessary reaction to the actions against the opposition leader Navalny with the construction of Nord Stream 2. Anyone who believes that the new gas pipeline satisfies the interests of only Russia is wrong,” the politician stressed.
At the same time, the chancellor asked the Kremlin to release Alexei Navalny.
According to Kurz, the EU must find out if it will weaken if it leaves Nord Stream 2.
At the same time, he added, on the issue of SP-2, it is necessary to ensure that Ukraine’s interests are respected.
It was previously reported that the new German government, which will come after Chancellor Angela Merkel’s resignation, could refuse to participate in the Nord Stream 2 project.
Meanwhile, the pipe laying vessel Fortuna began laying a pipeline in Danish waters the day before.
