Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov said he did not want to bring down his Finnish colleague Yoni Mäki after the conflict at the end of the World Cup race in Lahti.

In a comment to NRK.no, the athlete from the Russian Federation explained that he was unable to brake, as his mount broke. According to Alexander, he just wanted to talk to his opponent and ask him why he decided to play “dishonestly”.

“When I crossed the finish line, I wanted to talk to Mäki about what happened before the end of the race and why the Finn did this. He was driving at high speed, and when I tried to stop, I realized that the mount was broken. I didn’t want to knock him down, I just wanted to talk. I saw what happened before the goal, and I don’t think Myaki played fair. He deliberately blocked me and it’s unfair. I still have that opinion, “Bolshunov said.

Recall that due to this incident, Bolshunov and the Russian team were deprived of “bronze”. Alexander’s father said that for such behavior one should approach rivals and “kick them in the face in Russian”.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Mäki recounted how he provoked the Russian during the World Cup race.
