Ukraine’s goal is to join the European Union’s electricity supply system in 2023, said Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
Ukraine should be isolated from the energy systems of Belarus and Russia. This was announced on the air on Ukraine 24 TV channel by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
“Ukraine’s goal is to join the EU electricity supply system in 2023. This means that we must disconnect from the Belarusian and Russian systems and fully integrate into the EU … We are following this path. And for me, as Minister Of Foreign Relations, this is fundamentally important. Everything we do on this path is tactics. But the strategy remains unchanged. We will eventually disconnect from the energy systems of Belarus and Russia, “Kuleba stressed.
A new electricity market has been operating in Ukraine since July 1, 2019, in accordance with European Union standards, but the reform has not been completed: cross-subsidies have not been eliminated and the administrative influence of the authorities is maintained in the market.
The fact that in 2023 the Ukrainian energy system will become part of the European one was announced in December 2019 by the then Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk.
On January 22, 2021, Ukraine’s acting Minister of Energy Yuriy Vitrenko said that Ukraine urgently needs to withdraw from the energy system united with Russia and Belarus.
