In Transcarpathia, only the Ukrainian language now has official status
The Beregovsky District Council made the decision to end the operation of all regional languages in the region.
In Transcarpathia, all decisions of local self-government bodies on the functioning of regional languages were declared invalid. Language advocate Taras Kremin announced it on Tuesday, January 19, on Facebook.
He said that he had received a letter from the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in which it is reported that by decision of the Beregovsky District Council No. 40 of December 29, 2020, the decisions on the regional language of the Beregovsky District Councils and Vinogradovsky were declared invalid.
“Therefore, all local government decisions on the operation of regional languages in the Transcarpathian region have been canceled,” the letter says.
Kremin specified that it concerns, in particular, the decision of the Solotvinsky village council on the recognition of the Romanian language as a regional language.
Recall that in December in the Odessa region, the status of the regional for the Russian language was canceled.
As you know, on January 16, article 30 of the “language law” came into force, after which the service sector in the country completely switched to the Ukrainian language. Earlier, the State Language Protection Commissioner Taras Kremin explained that this will change.
