German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to step up work on the Normandy format to resolve the situation in Donbas. Today they had telephone conversations.

“The chancellor and the president discussed matters related to the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation in eastern Ukraine. They agreed to intensify work on the Normandy format to implement the Minsk agreements,” the statement said.

“I am happy to speak with Angela Merkel. We continue to coordinate our efforts to establish peace in Donbass,” he wrote on his Twitter.
