Russia withdrew UAH 38 billion of gas from Ukraine’s storage facilities as collateral for Firtash

The Russian Industrial Asset Fund pledged the assets of Ukrainian businessman Dmitry Firtash, including shares of companies under his control and gas worth nearly 38 billion UAH.

The Fund received a guarantee for a loan granted to Ostchem Holding Limited, a member of the DF Group. This was reported by RBC.

Firtash companies hold shares in Cypriot companies Alandero Investments, Ostchem Distribution, Ostchem Enterprises, Ostchem Holding Limited, Ostchem International, Ostchem Investments, Ostchem Resources, Ostchem Ventures, PLG UA Limited, Spodola Ventures, Ukrainian companies Severodonetsk Association Azot, Ukragro NPK “, PJSC” Azot “,” Rivneazot “,” Stirol “, Swiss NF Trading AG, Estonia Nitrofert AS.

Most of these assets are related to Ostchem’s nitrogen fertilizer transportation and production business.

In addition to the shares pledged by the Industrial Assets Fund, there is gas that belonged to the Ostchem companies. Its estimated cost is almost 38 billion UAH.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, Firtash was arrested on March 12, 2014 in the Austrian capital at the request of the US FBI and placed in a remand center.

However, on March 21 he was released on a record bail of 125 million euros, the money of which, according to a source from OBOZREVATEL, was provided by Russian businessmen Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, considered close to the Kremlin.

In December 2017, the Vienna Court of Appeal refused to extradite a Ukrainian businessman to Spain. Firtash was accused of bribing $ 18.5 million to obtain permission to mine titanium in India. Denies the charges.

His defense insists that the United States has no jurisdiction over crimes in India. Additionally, the businessman’s lawyers said his client was allegedly not charged at all in the United States.

On June 25, 2019, the Austrian Supreme Court agreed to extradite Firtash to the United States at the request of the United States Department of Justice.

It later emerged that Firtash’s lawyers filed a motion to reopen the extradition case. You will remain in Austria until the court decides on the application.
