Alexander Lukashenko expressed his willingness to resume relations with Kiev, despite the fact that the Ukrainian side did not recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus. He said this in an interview on the TV channel Russia-1, reports TASS.
“I do not hold a grudge (the President of Ukraine) Volodya Zelensky. I understand: I said something when I was young. But this does not mean that you have to look at him all the time, understand what is happening, and watch him be offended or angry,” he said. the politician.
He believes that the “hostile statements” by Ukrainian officials are explained by the difficult situation Ukraine is in.
“They (the Ukrainian authorities) stated that, but we have good relations, the Ukrainian people treat Belarusians very well, we treat them even better,” Lukashenka said.
According to him, economic cooperation between countries continues to develop. At the same time, the politician admitted that relations between Kiev and Minsk “froze” at the embassy level.
Lukashenko stressed that he is ready to resume contacts with Zelensky, but the initiative must be shown by the Ukrainian side.
“I would not look at him with suspicion. Condescending, with suspicion, with contempt – never. A young man, a young president. A trained person, I think. I am sure of this, he is a healthy, normal person,” he said.
Dozens of countries, including the United States, the EU and Ukraine, also did not recognize Lukashenka as a legitimate president.
