Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna are effective against mutated types of COVID-19, says NSDC
Vaccines against the coronavirus will last from eight months to two years, the National Defense and Security Council said.
The coronavirus vaccines, specifically Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna, are effective against mutated types of infection and last longer than other vaccines. This was announced on Saturday, January 9, by the head of the Biosafety and Biological Protection Commission under the National Security and Defense Council, the academic of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Sergey Komissarenko on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24.
“Evidence has been published of how a vaccine like Pfizer or Moderna protects against a new strain that is spreading from the UK and South Africa. A study in the serum of people who have been immunized with the artificially mutated virus has shown that the vaccine protects these people from new viruses “, – said the representative of the NSDC.
Also, he said, COVID vaccines will last much longer than, say, the flu vaccine, from eight months to two years.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, said that the first deliveries of the coronavirus vaccine to Ukraine are expected in February. We are talking about a drug from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.
