The fortune of Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has risen to $ 188.5 billion, surpassed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos by $ 1.5 billion and became the richest of all the inhabitants of the planet.

This is evidenced by data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

It is noted that after the rise in Tesla’s stock price by 4.8% on January 7, Musk passed Bezos in the ranking of the rich.

«At 10:15 AM in New York (5:15 pm Kiev time) Musk’s fortune is estimated at $ 188.5 billion, which is $ 1.5 billion more than that of Bezos, who ranked first since October 2017, ”the agency writes.

Musk’s fortune has grown by more than $ 150 billion over the past year. Bloomberg writes that «it is possibly the fastest growing wealth in history. “

This is attributed to the “unprecedented” growth in Tesla shares. The company’s shares closed 2020 at an all-time high after they were listed on the S&P 500 in December. Shares of Tesla were up 743% for the year and are now worth more than $ 700 a share.

«Despite his astronomical achievements, Musk said he has little interest in material things and has few assets outside of his stakes in Tesla and SpaceX. Last month, he said that the main objective of his wealth is to accelerate the evolution of humanity towards a space civilization, ”writes Bloomberg.

«I want to be able to contribute as much as possible to the city of Mars. It’s just a lot of capital, ”Musk added.

The Washington Post, which belongs to Bezos, also wrote that Musk, after the growth of Tesla shares, outperformed the rating of the rich.

«Strange … Well, let’s get back to work … “- Musk wrote on Twitter in response to this message.

In December 2020, Musk was ranked second on Forbes’ list of the richest people in the world, and he stayed there for two days.

According to Forbes, since the beginning of the year, the combined fortunes of more than 2,200 billionaires around the world have grown $ 1.9 trillion, or 20%. As of December 11, its capital was estimated at $ 11.4 billion.
