A gas pipeline has been put into service in the Czech Republic, which will be connected to the Nord Stream 2 onshore extension by the EUGAL gas pipeline.
About this with reference to the Czech operator Net4Gas informs the DW edition. The new gas pipeline begins in the Czech Republic on the border with German Saxony, where it connects with the SP-2, which runs along the Baltic coast of Germany.
The pipeline ends in the west of the Czech Republic at a gas distribution center near the border with German Bavaria. There it is connected to the Central European MEGAL gas pipeline, which runs from the Bavarian Waidhaus to Medelsheim on the Franco-German border.
The maximum throughput of the gas pipeline is 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In Otvitsa, not far from Khomutov, a gas compressor station was built to increase the pressure of the gas, which loses for many kilometers. The construction of the gas pipeline began in 2017 and cost 540 million euros.
Nord Stream 2 will avoid transit states: Ukraine, Belarus, Poland. Its launch could result in the loss of billions of dollars in the transit of blue fuel. The cost of the “pipeline” is about 9.5 billion euros. This is one of Gazprom’s most expensive projects. German companies also participate. They want to supply gas from Russia directly to Germany.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the Russian ship Akademik Chersky, which will complete the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, left the German port of Mukran, the project’s logistics base. After a month in Germany, the pipelayer headed to the Russian city of Kaliningrad.
US sanctions are the main obstacle to the completion of Nord Stream 2. As of October 20, they concern insurance and certified companies that work with ships.
Starting in 2021, not only companies that provide ships for the construction of Nord Stream 2 will fall under US sanctions, but also those that engage in the modernization of ships that are supposed to complete it, install the necessary equipment or finance these processes. .
