Maduro: Freezing of funds for vaccines in Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro

In the republic, more than 114 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, of which 1,032 ended with the death of a patient.

The Venezuelan authorities appealed to the European Union and the United States with a request to thaw public funds in order to buy a coronavirus vaccine for the republic, but they were rejected. This was announced on Sunday, January 3, by the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, on the Venezolana de Televisión channel.

“We demanded that money be provided to us to buy a vaccine through the World Health Organization. They refused,” said the head of state.

According to him, this money was frozen and stolen in four countries: England, Portugal, Spain, the United States.

“Those who have funds to buy a vaccine are sold and supplied quickly, and those who do not have money, let them die. Vaccines should not be subject to the rules of savage capitalism,” Maduro said.

According to the latest data, more than 114 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Venezuela, of which more than 108 thousand ended in recovery and 1032 in the death of a patient.

We will remember, previously the president of Venezuela announced that the Russian vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus in the first three months of 2021 will receive 10 million inhabitants of the country. The authorities expect the first doses in the first quarter of this year.
