In Croatia, a liquefied gas terminal has come into operation on the island of Krk, which will receive gas from the United States. The terminal’s cargo prospects are linked to the possibilities of supplying fuel to neighboring countries, including Ukraine.
Reported by Reuters.
The first LPG tanker from the Cove Point US plant arrived on the island on January 1, 2021. It was the Tristar Ruby ship.
“The Tristar Ruby LNG tanker arrived with 143,000 cubic meters of gas, which kicks off commercial use of the terminal,” said LNG manager Hrvatska.
According to the agency, the terminal worked in test mode for a month.
The core of the floating terminal is the regasification vessel LNG Croatia, converted from used carrier gas Golar Viking. It was built in 2005 at the Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries, and in 2020 it was modernized at shipyards in China and Croatia.
The terminal is jointly owned by Hrvatska elektroprivreda dd (85%) and Plinacro doo (15%).
Initially, the terminal capacity was declared at the level of 6-4 million tons per year, but as a result, its configuration was revised to 2.6 million tons per year. Croatia consumes only 2.9 billion cubic meters per year. 1 billion cubic meters m, while almost all of this volume was provided by Gazprom: 2,821 million cubic meters. m) Therefore, the terminal’s cargo prospects were linked to the possibilities of deliveries to neighboring countries: Hungary and Ukraine.
The “Ukraine GTS operator”, together with the Hungarian GTS operator, is working to create guaranteed capacities for the transportation of gas from this terminal to Ukraine. This will create an additional route for the supply of gas to the country from alternative sources, will strengthen our energy security “, – said the head of LLC GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon.
As a reminder, in Ukraine, an official was selling liquefied petroleum gas, which, under the terms of the contract, was accepted for storage by a foreign invested company. The amount of damage caused to investors is more than 25 million hryvnia.
In addition, “Strana” said that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in a closed-door meeting reintroduced special tariffs on the import of diesel fuel, coal and liquefied gas, which will be valid until the end of 2020.
