Who is required to take the Ukrainian test from January

The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, Taras Kremin, recalled that in January 2021 one of the articles of the law on the operation of the Ukrainian language as a state language (also known as the law on total Ukrainianization) comes into force . In this sense, some citizens will have to take a language test.

He spoke about this on the air of the television channel Ukraine 24.

“In the first place, this will apply to those who request public service: they will be ministers and officials, heads of regional and district administrations, state companies, prosecutors. That is, who will be directly involved in activities related to state power. Relatively different categories – these are citizens who acquire citizenship. These are citizens of other countries who, having passed the state exam, have the right to obtain citizenship of our state, “said Kremin.

The official explained that the rest of citizens should not take the language test in 2021. At least until there are changes in the relevant law.

As a reminder, as of January 16, another rule of the language law comes into force, according to which all service providers, regardless of their form of ownership, are obliged to serve consumers and provide information on goods and services in Ukrainian.
