Three more quarter-final matches took place at the World Junior Championships in Canada. Finland, Canada and the USA reached the semifinals after Russia.
The Finns beat Sweden in a tense match – 3: 2. The opponents won the first period with a score of 2: 0, but Finland recovered a goal in the second segment of the game, and then in the third period the Finns scored two times more, with the deciding goal scored 25 seconds before the final siren.
Canada easily faced the Czech Republic with a score of 3: 0, scoring two goals in the first segment of the match and then securing the lead in the third period. The United States, in turn, left Slovakia behind in the tournament – 5: 2.
Recall that the first semifinalist of the youth world championship was the Russians, who yesterday defeated Germany with a score of 2: 1.
In the semi-finals, Canada will play Russia, while the United States will face Finland. The games will take place the night of January 4-5.
