As the head of the department of climate research and long-term weather forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Institute of Ukraine of the NAS said Minister MartazinovaTo build a forecast through mid-January, meteorologists looked at the weather near the date of December 20.
“We saw that it snowed, the temperature dropped, but not significantly. In some places it was -8 degrees. This shows what it will be winter to mid-January – -5 to +5 degrees“, – she said.
The meteorologist added that due to the high winter temperatures, the monthly precipitation rate did not fall as snow, but as rain.
“The rainfall in January is not very good. If the temperature was low now, the snow would have been lying. But all the precipitations fell in the form of rain, there were many. It turns out that our winter is without snow due to the high temperature,” said.
In the second half of January, scientists predict a significant cooling. “And then it should get colder. The second half of January, early February should be cold“, – warned the forecaster.
Christmas will be rainy, January will be warm
In the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, in a comment to OBOZREVATEL, they clarified that the long-term meteorological forecasts, more than 10 days, are not accurate and, however, January can be quite a warm month. According to the leading forecaster Romana Murmylo, first half of January will be “predominantly to warm and relatively quiet. The temperature will be above normal, the precipitation, within the climatic norm and a little lower. “
He reported that beginning of the month – with precipitation, with rain, with wind: “The background temperature will be very different. For example, in the west and east of the country about 0 degrees at night, in the rest of the territory + 4 … + 9 degrees.”
From January 2 to 5 it will be a little colder and before Christmas (January 7) the warming will begin again. “It’s not that it’s completely hot. There will only be warmer air masses. Christmas weekend will be rain mainly in the form of rain or sleet ”, – said the forecaster.
Rainy weather is expected from January 6 to 7. “On Christmas Eve, it may be about 0 degrees, but no specific frosts are in sight yet,” Murmylo said.
According to him, in the next 10 days in most regions of Ukraine it will not snow, but it will rain. “But there will be more precipitation in the Carpathian region in the form of wet snow… Exclusively for the relief. There will be atmospheric fronts, more precipitation will fall, perhaps even at dangerous values in terms of quantity. “
The forecaster added that increases the danger of avalanches in the Carpathians… “There is that possibility, as there will be wet snow, but it is difficult to say for now. It will become clear later,” he said.
As for the entire month of January, the Hydrometeorological Center hopes that in terms of temperatures it will be higher than the climatic norm… “If there are cold waves, they will be short-term.
