The launch of a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the European Union five years ago started a new era of trade relations between Ukraine and the EU.
The fifth president, leader of European Solidarity, Petro Poroshenko, wrote on Facebook on the anniversary of the launch of the Free Zone. The politician noted that “this event forever changed Ukraine’s foreign economic policy and opened qualitatively new unlimited opportunities for domestic exporters and foreign investments.”
Poroshenko also reminded the skeptics and populists who argued that nothing would work and that an FTA with the EU would fail.
“In response to this historic step by our state, the Russian aggressor tightened the economic blockade of our traditional markets in the east to discredit our path towards economic integration with the EU, to demonstrate that Ukraine’s only correct choice is Russian networks. , the Russian stalemate, “Poroshenko said.
The fifth president declared that today about 40% of the total volume of Ukraine’s trade belongs to the European leadership.
“In 5 years we have increased the volume of trade with the EU by approximately 60%. Ukraine is confidently among the top twenty trading partners of the European Union and among the top five exporters of agricultural products to the EU. He also added that economic integration is a way to achieve membership criteria and a practical solution to the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
