The company “Dneprostal-Energo” of Viktor Pinchuk from January 1 began deliveries of electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant to Ukraine.
This is evidenced in the results of the daily auctions for access to interstate networks carried out by the NEC Ukrenergo, reports RBC.
Pinchuk’s company had the opportunity to import 60 MW from Belarus every day.
The second company that received the right to buy electricity from the Alexander Lukashenko regime and supply electricity to Ukraine was Donbasenergo. The company accessed a daily capacity of 50 MW.
Already on January 1, Ukraine is expected to import from Belarus at least 110 MW of electricity, equivalent to one-tenth of the capacity of the newly commissioned Belarusian nuclear power plant, which the Baltic countries and Poland have boycotted.
Recall that in December, NEURC removed all restrictions on the import of electricity from Russia and Belarus, which were introduced in the spring of 2020 on behalf of President Vladimir Zelensky.
Electricity imports from Russia and Belarus took place from October 2019 to March 2020. In total, more than 1 billion kWh were supplied. Direct losses of the Ukrainian energy system from imports, according to experts, amounted to UAH 3 to 5 billion.
According to experts, imports also caused the biggest crisis in the country’s history in the energy market and record losses for state-owned energy companies. Due to the purchase of electricity from Russia, 95% of Ukrainian mines in the spring of 2020 were forced to stop working.
