For the first time since 2011, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did not appear on television with the traditional New Year’s speech, but congratulated the nation with a letter.
It was published by government resource KCNA and later distributed by local media. A photo was attached to the text of the congratulation, showing that the letter was handwritten.
“I sincerely wish all the families of the country greater happiness with their loved ones, good health. In the new year, I will also work hard to start a new era before, in which the ideals and wishes of our people come true”, He says.
Kim also thanked North Korean citizens for trusting and supporting “the party even in difficult times” and vowed to “always remain loyal to the people.”
In his personal speeches in previous years, the North Korean leader congratulated people on the New Year, spoke about plans for the year and expressed the party’s policies.
OBOZREVATEL previously announced that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin ignored Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his Christmas and New Year greetings for heads of other states. At the same time I remembered in the speech of even the leaders of the unrecognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia – Aslan Bzhaniya and Anatoly Bibilov.
