Gas rates rise: is it possible to pay 40% less, as Zelensky promised?

[ad_1]

President Volodymyr Zelensky has promised that state-owned Naftogaz will offer the lowest prices for blue fuel. According to him, Ukrainians can pay 40% less for gas.

At the same time, since January 1, natural gas rates have increased by at least 17.5%. Naftogaz, for example, raised the tariff from 6.33 UAH (in December 2020) to 7.22 UAH (in January 2021) per cubic meter.

Read about whether you can really save gas on OBOZREVATEL material.

What did Zelensky promise?

According to the president, Naftogaz will sell blue fuel at the lowest rates. He calculated that Ukrainians could save about 40% if they switched to the services of a state company.

“Private providers in different regions of Ukraine sometimes set the price of gas for the population 30% to 40% higher than Naftogaz.” We even found a company that offers a 50% higher price than NAK. Naftogaz will offer the lowest prices on the market. And it will fight to lower the price, despite the market. We have COVID-19 and people need help, “Zelensky announced.

Now most Ukrainians buy blue fuel from regional gas distribution companies (the companies are associated with regional gas companies), they actually sell at a higher price than Naftogaz.

Does Naftogaz really offer the lowest prices?

No. Since August, when Ukraine stopped controlling blue fuel prices, several dozen suppliers independently decide which tariffs to set. And since that time, Naftogaz has never set the lowest rate.

For example, the GazPravda project has collected prices from all suppliers in Ukraine. It turned out that five companies sell cheaper than Naftogaz! For example, Gas AP customers can buy a cubic meter at a price of only 6.99 UAH.

Who has the lowest rates:

  • “Gas AP” – 6.99 UAH per cubic meter;

  • Megawatt – 7.05 UAH per cubic meter;

  • Agrosynthesis trade – 7.08 UAH per cubic meter;

  • Energy resources of Ukraine – 7.11 UAH per cubic meter;

  • Askania Energy – 7.2 UAH per bucket;

  • Naftogaz – 7,224 UAH per cubic meter.

True, there are, for example, “Gassbyt Sums”, for which the cost of a cubic meter has already reached UAH 9.91.

Can you save 40% as Zelensky promised?

You can, but only if your supplier has inflated the price and you replace it. At the same time, it is not necessary to choose Naftogaz. Dozens of companies such as Naftogaz operate in the market. And some of them, as previously written, offer even better prices.

Zelensky actually advertises Naftogaz as it is a state-owned company, and the revenue it generates replenishes the state budget. But this does not mean that it is not necessary to immediately choose and accept the services of the NAC.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukraine approved an increase in tariffs for natural gas distribution as of January 1, 2021. As a result, prices will rise by 80% on average.

As of January 1, 2021, Naftogaz will stop connecting its customers with the annual fee. All those who managed to use this service will continue to receive blue fuel at a fixed price. The rest will be able to use only the monthly rate.
