Approved by Russia – Stoltenberg
The secretary general of the alliance noted that Russia “is using its military power against its neighbors: Georgia and Ukraine.”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg believes that Russia does not pose a serious threat to the alliance in the military sphere. He said this on Thursday, December 31, in an interview with Le Point magazine, writes TASS.
“I don’t see a direct threat from Russia, for example the threat of a military attack. But I see that Russia is establishing itself. It is using its military might against its neighbors, Georgia and Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
The NATO secretary general also believes that the Kremlin “was behind the cyberattacks against parliaments in Germany and Norway” and also “interfered with democratic processes” in the United States and France.
“Although it is not as powerful as the Soviet Union was, Russia has nuclear weapons and missiles that can reach the entire territory of Europe,” stressed the head of the alliance.
Stoltenberg criticized Turkey’s decision to acquire the Russian-made S-400 air defense system, adding that Turkey is an ally of NATO and should remain in the alliance.
We will recall, in Ukraine, border guards completed exercises in accordance with NATO standards. The final stage of the exercises was the acceptance of the Ukrainian state border of the brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the operational subordination of the tactical group of the company of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was also reported that NATO has increased its military budget for 2021. Next year, the military budget will amount to 1.61 billion euros and the civil budget to 258.9 million euros, the Alliance decided.
