On Wednesday, US prosecutors charged Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoisky and his business partner Gennady Bogolyubov with using embezzled funds to buy real estate in Ohio. Previously, such accusations concerned properties in Kentucky and Texas.
Write about it Reuters.
Kolomoisky’s attorneys have yet to comment on the charges. Representatives of Bogolyubov could not be reached.
A statement from the US Department of Justice alleges that Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov used embezzled funds from the PrivatBank of Ukraine to purchase commercial real estate in Ohio, and that they were seized in the US.
The U.S. attorney’s office said that between 2008 and 2016, Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov received fraudulent loans and lines of credit, some of which they laundered through shell company accounts at PrivatBank’s Cyprus office before transferring money to U.S.
Overall, according to the US Department of Justice, real estate in the three US states is worth more than $ 60 million.
Recall that on August 6 the United States Department of Justice accused Kolomoisky of “stealing billions from the bank that was once his property” and laundering them in the United States.
