Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry believes that the amount of compensation for the relatives of those killed in the Ukraine International Airlines plane crash should be determined during negotiations.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, commenting on Iran’s decision to provide compensation to the families of Ukrainian citizens killed during the plane crash near Tehran, said that interaction with the Iranian side does not advance beyond statements in the media. On December 30, a representative from the ministry told Evropeyskaya Pravda about this.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the amount of compensation should be determined through negotiations between the parties.
“An important prerequisite should be to establish the causes of the tragedy and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the ministry said.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, international practice in this type of disaster will be taken into account when determining the amount of compensation.
In addition to the statements that the Iranian side has been making in the media in recent days, the interaction is not progressing. The agreements reached during the second round of consultations in Tehran at the end of October 2020, Iran has not yet fulfilled. This situation is especially unacceptable, since we are talking about the fate of innocent people, “said the Foreign Ministry.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that Ukraine is waiting from Iran for a draft technical report on the circumstances of the plane crash.
Today, the Iranian government made the decision to pay compensation of $ 150,000 to each family of those killed in the January Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plane crash near Tehran. The IRNA agency wrote about it.
Boeing 737-800 passenger plane of “Ukraine International Airlines” flight PS752, which was heading from Tehran to Kiev, crashed on January 8 near the capital of Iran… There were 167 passengers and nine crew members on board. Nobody survived. Among the dead – 11 citizens of Ukraine. Most of the passengers were Iranian and Canadian citizens.
Iranian authorities, who initially claimed that the plane crashed due to a technical malfunction, on January 11, under pressure from Western leaders, admitted that flight PS752 was shot down by an Iranian missile by mistake.
On July 23, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeniy Yenin said that the decryption of the black box data, which was completed in France, confirmed illegal interference with a passenger ship.
On August 23, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran released a series of data received from the onboard voice recorder and the flight data recorder of the UIA aircraft. According to the records, the crew knew about the emergency and tried to control the plane to the end.
Iran has stated that agree to pay compensation for the downed Boeing Ukrainian passenger. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said that the resolution of this issue “will take time and will have various aspects from a technical and legal point of view” and the head of Iran’s Central Insurance Organization, Golamreza Suleimani, said the UIA should not receive compensation from Iran, as the Boeing shot down by the Iranian military was insured by European companies.
On December 8, Yenin reported that Iran withdraws offer to pay compensation to families of disaster victims.
