SBU arrested the leaders of the criminal group involved in the kidnapping in the Dnipropetrovsk region. During the special operation, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked the activities of an organized criminal group involved in the commission of high-profile crimes and intimidation of citizens.
According to the preliminary version of the investigation, the group included up to 15 people with a criminal past. The attackers kept local residents in fear of robbery, violence and destruction of property, he reports, referring to the SBU.
Likewise, the group’s leaders, who had previously been repeatedly convicted of committing particularly serious crimes, organized an extensive drug and psychotropic distribution network in the region. The defendants sold wholesale consignments of “goods” through personal contacts and also lured drug traffickers for resale. According to operational information, the monthly turnover of banned substances amounted to almost 6 million hryvnia, the group operated for almost a year.
To accompany the drug business and fight against “competitors”, the criminal organization also had a “wing of power”. The aggressors psychologically pressured the victims and threatened to physically harm them. According to preliminary data, the criminals are also involved in the kidnapping.
During the searches at the place of residence of the accused, the SBU officers found weapons, grenades, drugs and money obtained through criminal means. Now, in accordance with article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, law enforcement officers have arrested six organizers and active members of the group.
In the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under articles 255 (creation, management of a criminal community or criminal organization, as well as participation in it), 146 (illegal imprisonment or kidnapping), 185 (theft), 289 (seizure vehicle), 307 (illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, six criminals have already been notified of suspicion. The question of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved. Urgent investigative actions continue to bring other defendants to justice. Information on the participation of representatives of the forces of order in the activities of the criminal organization is being verified.
