The United States approved the appointment of Oksana Markarova as Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington. However, the final decision on the appointment of the ambassador will be made by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was announced by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Yevgeniy Yenin, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“The Ukrainian side has already received an agreement (preliminary consent) for the appointment of Oksana Markarova as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, at the same time that the president of Ukraine will make the final decision,” Yenin said.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that the United States is Ukraine’s key partner in the security field and is a key partner in providing military assistance to Ukraine.
Recall that the information that Oksana Markarova could become Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States appeared in November. His candidacy was proposed by Chancellor Dmitry Kuleba.
Kuleba later said that Markarova would be an effective ambassador.
Note that Oksana Markarova served as Finance Minister from June 2018 to March 2020. First, in the government of Vladimir Groisman, then – Alexei Goncharuk.
