Fashion designer Pierre Cardin died in France at the age of 99. This was reported by the newspaper Le Figaro, citing a statement from the family.

It should be noted that the designer died in a hospital on the western outskirts of Paris. The cause of death was not specified.


Pierre Cardin was born on July 2, 1922 in Italy. He began his career as a theater artist and in 1946 created the costumes for the film Beauty and the Beast by Jean Cocteau.

From 1947 he worked in Christian Dior’s atelier, and in 1950 he founded his own fashion house.

Cardin was considered a fashionable avant-garde artist. In 1960, she created the first collection of men’s clothing, breaking the traditional approach to fashion as an art for women. He was one of the first to start with denim, youth and children’s clothing.

The designer has patented more than 500 inventions, including colorful tights and knee-high boots, minidresses, floral ties, long collarless blazers, and button-down skinny pants.

In 1970, Cardin created designs for NASA. He became the only person to try on Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit, in which an astronaut set foot on the moon for the first time in history.
