Former undersecretary of the Defense and National Security Council, Sergei Krivonos, is not interested in teamwork as undersecretary of the NSDC. This opinion was expressed by the adviser to the head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy removed Serhiy Krivonos from the post of undersecretary of the Defense and National Security Council of Ukraine due to the fact that he “did not work as a team” and “made political statements out loud.” This was stated by the adviser to the head of the President’s Office, Mikhail Podolyak, in a comment to LIGA.net.

According to him, Krivonos at the Defense and National Security Council “did not offer his high-quality expert evaluations and did not work as a team.”

“President Zelensky hoped that Kryvonos could work together with the new team in the interest of Ukraine and within the framework of modern concepts of national security. However, to our great regret, each month it became more and more obvious that Krivonos was not interested in teamwork as undersecretary of the NSDC. Clearly, I liked making loud political statements, getting into political squabbles. This is definitely not about the state or the key national security expert body. The reasons for the separation are more than natural, “Podolyak said.

March 12, 2019 the fifth President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko, who was then running for a second term, named Krivonos for the position of Undersecretary of the NSDC. Before Krivonos withdrew his candidacy of the presidential elections in Ukraine in favor of Poroshenko.

After Zelensky’s victory in the elections, the Kryvonos remained in the NSDC.

On November 29, Zelenskiy removed Krivonos from the post of head of the interdepartmental commission on policy of technical-military cooperation and export control and of the working group on the elaboration of proposals to strengthen the country’s defense capacity. Krivonos expressed the view that his dismissal was initiated by then-NSDC secretary Aleksey Danilov, calling the council “a laughingstock with clowns.” The NSDC said that Krivonos’ withdrawal from various commissions is not related to politics.

Recently, the undersecretary of the NSDC spoke harshly about the actions of the Ukrainian authorities and said that Zelensky’s entourage had created an information capsule around the president.

After Krivonos criticized the president’s words about the mass mobilization in case of a new aggression from Russia, the former president of Georgia, the former head of the Odessa Regional State Administration and chairman of the Executive Committee for Reforms of Ukraine, Mikhail Saakashvili, said he should be fired.

On December 29, Zelensky signed a decree on the removal of Krivonos from the NSDC and its leadership. available to the Ministry of Defense.

Krivonos himself called Zelensky’s decision “a New Year’s gift.”
