Excommunicated from the church, ex-scheming monk Sergio (Nikolai Romanov), who is accused of leaning to suicide, was arrested for two months.
The corresponding decision was made today by the Basmanny Court in Moscow, said its press secretary Irina Sofinskaya in a comment to RIA Novosti.
“The court agreed to the request of the investigation to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for two months,” he said.
Sergio’s defense will appeal against the arrest.
Let us remind you that Sergiy was detained at night at the Sredneuralsky Women’s Monastery in the Sverdlovsk region during the OMON assault. The former monk is charged under articles of incitement to suicide, violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion and arbitrariness (part 3 of article 110.1, part 3 of article 148, paragraphs “c”, “e” of part 1 of Article 330 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
The rector of the Sredneuralsky nunnery opposed the decision of the church and secular authorities to close churches during the coronavirus epidemic. He called the disease a fiction and in his sermons he cursed all those who forbid worship.
Earlier we wrote about how today the Diocesan Court of the Diocese of the City of Moscow expelled the famous Orthodox publicist and blogger, Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev. The reason for this decision was the insult on the blog of Archpriest Alexander Ageikin, who died on April 21, 2020 due to the consequences of COVID-19.
