Example. 16th round. Barcelona – Eibar 1: 1. With Messi it’s bad, without him

The “Eibar” is a simple rival, so probably Ronald Koeman decided to give Messi an extra rest and hoped to take his with little blood. However, Messi lacked, it was noticeable in the difficulties with which the attacks were created at the doors of the “gunsmiths”.

And when, however, there was an ideal chance for the goal – Bigas hit Araujo on the leg in his own penalty area – “Barça” in the person of Martin Brightwhite missed him mediocrely. The Danish hit from the penalty spot missed the mark. Halfway through the first half, the forward was rehabilitated by closing a Firpo cross from the left wing, but at the time of the transfer he was offside. Small, but it was.

Araujo is the only Barça player who has got it right in the first half. The blow was not difficult for the goalkeeper, but in the conditions of the offensive break it was at least something. In general, the Catalans have only accumulated four shots, the “Eibar” hit the door almost twice.

Kadzior, Inui, Exposito – despite playing without the ball, the Basques found chances and worried Ter Stegen. It’s not worth saying that “Eibar” deserved an advantage on the scoreboard, but it certainly deserved not to lose, it was.

The “Barça” at the beginning of the second half intensified the situation, however, there was still a lack of clarity in the final phase of the attacks. Dembele and Pjanic didn’t take their chances in a single attack; then the cartridges in Dembele and de Jong’s shots were blank. He does not score … “Eibar” endured the attack and waited for an error from Araujo. Quique García willingly took possession, approached the goal and shot over Ter Stegen.

Only after that did Barça grind their goal: de Jong, Pjanic, Firpo participated in a wide attack, which redirected the ball closer to the opposite side of the field to Dembélé, who just shot from the free zone.

Until the end of the game, it was Usman who led the Barcelona attacks. He was not only able to save the ‘Blaugranas’ from defeat, but also to bring victory to the team. But that would not have been deserved. Eibar played this game well and should have received their award. A point is just that.

The team played poorly against Messi in the majority of games this season. But without Messi, as practice shows, it’s even worse.
