In the office of the Serbian member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, they replied to the Ukrainian embassy that they had an ancient Orthodox icon, which President Dodik presented to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. According to them, the question of moving the icon remains open.
Ukraine, in turn, requests Bosnia and Herzegovina to return this icon for the corresponding examinations.
This is reported by UNN with reference to the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko.
The icon of Saint Nicholas, donated by Dodik Lavrov, supposedly “was in the possession of a family from the Republika Srpska” and is a “family icon”.
“However, no supporting documents were provided on the legality of the transfer of the icon to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, the question of the true circumstances of the artifact’s arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the manner of its receipt on the property remains open, “said Nikolenko.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Ukraine approached Bosnia and Herzegovina with a request to immediately hand over the Ukrainian icon presented to Lavrov.
Ukraine approached Bosnia and Herzegovina with a request for the icon to be handed over immediately for detailed examination. The Ukrainian side also expressed its willingness to cooperate with the investigation authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina to clarify all the circumstances related to the removal of the icon from the territory of our state. Total opening of Bosnia and Herzegovina. on this issue, it would confirm that it has a real political will to develop friendly relations with Ukraine, respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, “added Dodik.
In addition, according to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the National Police and cultural institutions, continue to take measures, including with the participation of Interpol’s capabilities, to establish the circumstances, time and people involved in the seizure and moving the icon from the territory of Ukraine.
Recall that Milorad Dodik gave the icon to Lavrov on December 14 during the diplomat’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Ukrainian embassy has requested information about the origin of the icon, which, according to the embassy, was found in Lugansk, and its age is about 300 years. After that, the Ukrainian embassy sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and demanded to find out how the Lugansk icon ended up in the country.
Following the Bosnian scandal, an investigation was launched.
In addition, “Strana” reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry returned the icon presented to Lavrov to the Bosnians. He was transferred to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Moscow on December 23.
Two days earlier, Serbia announced that the icon had been taken out of Donbass through the territory of Russia and Serbia.
