COVID-19 will continue to mutate as it multiplies in human cells
The coronavirus will not pose a great threat if the vaccination of the population is effective.
According to experts from the World Health Organization, the coronavirus will become endemic. At the same time, even a highly effective vaccine does not guarantee the elimination or eradication of this infectious disease, writes The Guardian.
“It appears that COVID-19 will become endemic, like the other four human coronaviruses. It will continue to mutate as it multiplies in human cells, especially in areas with more intense spread,” said WHO expert professor David Heymann.
At the same time, he emphasized that humanity has tools to save lives, which, combined with good public health, will allow learning to live with COVID-19.
Another WHO expert, Mark Ryan, believes that the coronavirus will be endemic, but it will not pose a great threat due to the vaccination of the population, but, in his opinion, the virus is unlikely to disappear completely even with an effective vaccine .
Ryan warned that the next pandemic could be much more serious than the current one.
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 81 million people have been infected on the planet, according to the WHO. More than 1.7 million have died.
Endemic infections are diseases whose causative agents are constantly found in a certain area.
As a reminder, vaccination with the Russian Sputnik V began in Argentina. In a first stage, mainly medical personnel will be vaccinated.
It was also reported that scientists expect a slowdown of the pandemic in Ukraine.
