The office of the Serbian member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, after the scandal with the Ukrainian icon, announced that the Russian foreign minister had received a “family icon”. But these words have not yet been backed up by evidence.
The President of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, announced this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, the Ukrainian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina was informed that the icon of Saint Nicholas was allegedly “in the possession of a family from the Republika Srpska” and is a “family icon”.
“However, no supporting documents were provided on the legality of the transfer of the icon to the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, the question of the true circumstances of the artifact’s arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina and how to acquire it as property remains open, “Nikolenko said.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police, is taking steps, including with the involvement of Interpol, to establish how the Ukrainian icon got to Bosnia.
Recall, previously it was reported that in 2018 the president of the veterans organization of the Republic of Srpska Dusko Vukotic was able to remove the icon of the occupied Lugansk through Russian territory. He himself does not deny or confirm this information.
Ukraine was also reported to be asking Bosnia to return the icon for review.
