Russian FSB officers began searching for information on the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov, which may be related to the possible preparation of his assassination.
As reported on the website of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry, the specialists of the department intercepted a conversation through a special communication channel between two FSB officers. They were in Simferopol and Donetsk, respectively. (you can listen to the audio recording here).
The Russian agents discussed the search for information on Budanov and his transfer to the leadership of the FSB of the Russian Federation, which specializes in carrying out sabotage and special operations.
A source from the security forces told OBOZREVATEL that this FSB department could be preparing an assassination. Therefore, the employees of the Russian special services collect information about the movements of a potential victim, places of his stay, habits and the like. This can take, for example, several months.
Considering how the assassination of Colonel Maksim Shapoval, commander of the special reserve of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, was organized and carried out, the preparation of another attempt on the life of the intelligence chief should not be ruled out military, ”said the source.
The GUR released an audio file of a conversation between Russian intelligence officers.
The interlocutors are former employees of the Crimean Main Directorate of the SBU, who changed their oath and went on to serve in the FSB of the Russian Federation.

In April 2019, an attempt was made on the life of an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Budanov. Previously, he worked as Deputy Colonel Maksim Shapoval, who was killed in an explosion in 2017.
