Most Ukrainians will celebrate the New Year at home

Due to the pandemic, more than 80% of Ukrainians plan to celebrate the New Year at home, with their families.

This year, Ukrainians are willing to spend an average of 1,440 hryvnia on the New Year’s table. This is 3.6% more than in 2020 (1,390 hryvnia). This is evidenced by the data from the survey by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and KIIS, published on Monday, December 28.

At the same time, during the year, the proportion of respondents who said they had no money for the New Year’s table decreased from 23% to 16%.

Furthermore, amid the pandemic, the proportion of those who want to celebrate the New Year at home has grown significantly. There are 81% of them this year.

“The number of respondents who will spend the New Year with their families has risen by almost 14% and the proportion who will visit them has dropped by half. At the same time, one in five young people (or 23% of respondents aged 18 to 29 years) plan to celebrate the New Year in the company “, – note the survey authors.

The survey was conducted from December 5-13, 2020 among 2004 respondents in all regions of Ukraine, with the exception of Russian-occupied territories. The survey was carried out by the method of face-to-face personal interviews between. The statistical sampling error (with a probability of 0.95 and with a design effect of 1.5) does not exceed 3.3%.

A few weeks earlier, experts estimated that festive meals at a New Year’s table for four would cost 1,700 hryvnia.

And last year, the cost of the New Year’s table was 1620 hryvnia.
