Lukashenko has decided the date of the Belarusian People’s Assembly
It intends to make the Assembly a constitutional body that controls the main directions of the country’s development.
Alexander Lukashenko announced on Monday, December 28, that the Belarusian People’s Assembly will be held from February 11 to 12, reports the Telegram channel Pool of the First, close to the press service of the head of state.
“VNS will be held from February 11 to 12. The president announced the date at today’s meeting on the preparation of the Belarusian People’s Assembly,” the message says.
It was previously reported that the Belarusian People’s Assembly is scheduled to be held in early 2021, tentatively, in January-February. In October, Lukashenka announced that the meeting would inform citizens about the progress of work on amendments to the republic constitution. In addition, Lukashenko proposed to make the Belarusian People’s Assembly a constitutional body that would control the main directions of the country’s development.
The Belarusian People’s Assembly is a general meeting of representatives of the Belarusian government and other branches of government, heads and employees of companies, scientists and cultural workers. The event is held every five years, before it was organized in Minsk in June 2016.
Earlier, Lukashenka announced that he would hold a Belarusian People’s Assembly, which would approve a “beautiful democratic plan.”
As a reminder, the United States imposed sanctions on 40 Belarusian officials. In total, due to the situation in Belarus, these sanctions are currently in effect against 63 people.
