Ukraine’s Acting Minister of Energy Yuriy Vitrenko believes that if Ukrainians had high wages, they would not be worried about rising tariffs.

In Ukraine, the main problem is not tariffs, but the level of wages. Ukraine’s newly appointed Energy Minister Yuriy Vitrenko expressed this opinion to Channel 24 in an interview published on December 25.

“My position is this: there should be normal European rules. If this means an increase in tariffs, then those issues should be considered. But at the same time, there should be growth above wages. I think the main problem is not the tariffs in Ukraine, but low wages, “he added. – he said.

The acting minister called himself “a man of market opinions.”

“I believe that if everything is done correctly, the country will be successful and the people will be richer … Therefore, although the electricity rates are higher, but at the same time people will receive even higher salaries and everything will be stable They will not worry that the rates will grow constantly. This is a normal sustainable option “, – explained Vitrenko.

According to him, in the country “there is a great imbalance even between the public and private sectors.”

“It is not normal for a security guard in a private company to earn twice as much as a state anesthesiologist,” Vitrenko said.

On December 24, the National Commission of Ukraine, which carries out state regulation in the fields of energy and utilities, increased the weighted average heating tariff for the population. up to 1121.71 UAH / Gcal. In general, rates have increased by 10-20%, but some companies have raised the cost of heating by 30% to 50%.

On December 26, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine announced an increase in the price of natural gas for residential customers in January 2021 to 7.22 UAH per m³ (including VAT and excluding cost of distribution (delivery)). In August this price was 3.24 UAH per month.
