Kravchuk said this on the air of the TV channel Ukraine 24.
«Any answer is related to the question posed by the journalist. The journalist asked the question: if there was a Russian attack from Crimea, how would Ukraine behave? The president responded: if this happened, we would defend our land and everyone would go to defend it. And the question was “if only”, and the answer was in the same perspective, “said Ukraine’s first president.
According to Kravchuk, “the president could not answer otherwise.”
«And when we now begin to try to translate this into a purely practical plane, as I hear some of our officials, in particular, say, it is still a long way from that. When I was no longer president, they also asked me: if the enemy came to your land, what would you do? I said that I have a sufficient number of weapons of different calibers, that I would shoot all the enemies that were on my ground, as long as the weapons are holding hands and while the eyes are looking, I will defeat the enemy and I will not live by the principle of “Turn the other cheek.” This is a normal response from a patriot of Ukraine, a person who loves his land ”, he emphasized.
President Vladimir Zelensky, in an interview with Focus, published on December 25, commented on the possibility of a Russian attack from Crimea temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation. In response to a question from a journalist, the President stated that in this scenario «there will be a great war ”and the massive mobilization of Ukrainians, both men and women.
The NSDC criticized such a response from the president, calling the idea of mass mobilization «unrealistic. ”According to NSDC Undersecretary Major General Sergei Krivonos, it is impossible to implement general mobilization in practice in a short time.
