Hans Kluge, director of the WHO European Office, said in an interview with HB that it is still far from overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

«There is general knowledge that these viruses have been developing for about two years, so we are still halfway there, “Kluge said.

At the same time, he noted that WHO is trying to be careful about predictions of the development of the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, because «there is no job more thankless than predicting the unpredictable. “

«Once preventive measures, lockdowns, and efforts to control the virus are actively applied, the virus disappears. Relax and again we see a rapid increase in the number of cases, ”said the Director of the WHO European Office.

Previously, the founder of the German biotechnology company BioNTech, which has developed a vaccine against COVID-19 with Pfizer, Ugur Shahin said that the coronavirus will haunt humanity for the next 10 years.

In August 2020, WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus predicted that the coronavirus pandemic would end in two years.
