The Ukrainian embassy was unable to demonstrate its rights to the 300-year-old icon, which was presented to Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov by the President of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Milorad Dodik.
This was reported by the SRNA agency on Friday, December 25.
In particular, the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not receive the requested information.
“We request the Embassy of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers, but so far we have not received any proof that the claims of this country that the icon is its cultural heritage is not included on the list of stolen artifacts. ” – quotes the statement from Dodik’s press service agency.
Likewise, Milorad Dodik’s press service noted that the Bosnia and Herzegovina ambassador brought the icon returned by the Russian side to East Sarajevo.
Recall that the head of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, presented the icon to Lavrov on December 14 during the diplomat’s visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Ukrainian Embassy has requested information on the origin of the icon, which is alleged to have been found in Lugansk, and is about 300 years old.
Later, the Bosnian prosecutor’s office opened a case for the icon donated to Lavrov, supposedly brought from Lugansk, not controlled by Kiev.
Strana also reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry returned the Lugansk icon, presented to Lavrov, to the Bosnians. He was transferred to the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Moscow on December 23.
