Yarosh’s former bodyguard returned to Ukraine from Russian prison

The military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Shumkov, illegally convicted in Russia, returned to Ukraine on December 24.

This was reported on Facebook by FreeShumkov. Shumkov was received by family and friends at the Bachevsk checkpoint on the border with the Russian Federation in the Sumy region.

On December 24, Shumkov’s period of illegal imprisonment expired, for which he was subject to deportation as persona non grata on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Shumkov returned to Ukraine

The Ukrainian’s aunt, Lyudmila Shumkova, said on Facebook on December 24 that in the morning at 9:00 Moscow time, Russian special services took Shumkov from Tver to the border for deportation.

Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmila Denisov also announced the return of the political prisoner to Telegram.

He clarified that Shumkov was released from the colony on December 23, then he was in the “temporary detention center for foreign citizens” in the Tver region. On the night of December 24, the Ukrainian crossed the border through the Bachevsk checkpoint. He was received by his relatives, representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office and the territorial bodies of the military administration of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Today Alexander will go to Kherson to the military unit, where he served before the arrest,” wrote the Ombudsman.

Shumkov returned to Ukraine

Shumkov, 28, was part of the security guard of former “Right Sector” leader Dmitry Yarosh in 2014-2015.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner Lyudmila Denisova reported that agreements had been reached with Russia on the return of the Ukrainian to his homeland.

Shumkov served under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village of Chernobaevka, Belozersk district, Kherson region, and lived in Kherson. He did not return home from duty on August 17, 2017. On September 29, he was found in a Russian remand center.

The return home process took place at the Bachevsk checkpoint in the Sumy region.
Shumkov was received by relatives, associates and journalists.

Yarosh’s former bodyguard said he was kidnapped on the territory of Ukraine. At the time of his disappearance, Shumkov was a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In December 2018, the court sentenced him to 4 years in prison for his participation in the “Right Sector”.
