An even more contagious strain of COVID-19 was identified in the UK than the one due to which severe restrictions were imposed and transport links to other countries were suspended. The new strain was found in two visitors from South Africa.
This was announced by Health Minister Matt Hancock, reports Sky News.
According to him, two cases of an even more contagious new strain of COVID-19 have been identified. Both people came from South Africa a few weeks ago.
“This new variant is a serious concern because it is even more contagious and appears to have mutated more than the new variant that was found in the UK,” Hancock said.
He also expressed gratitude to the South African government for its openness and transparency after a new strain was identified in Britain. Additionally, London is reported to be temporarily closing flights to South Africa.
We will recall, previously, more than 40 countries have banned or limited travel to Britain due to the new strain.
