Astra Zeneka vaccine is less effective but easier to store
Ukraine hopes to receive a vaccine from Astra Zeneka, which is estimated to be 70% effective, but can be stored in freezing temperatures.
The director of the Center for Public Health, Igor Kuzin, predicts that Ukraine is likely to receive vaccines against the coronavirus from Astra Zeneka. He said this in a comment to UP Life on Tuesday, December 22.
He recalled that the effectiveness of the Astra Zeneka vaccine is estimated at 70%, while Pfizer / BioNTech has 95%, Modern – 94%.
But the last two should be stored at a temperature of -60 / -80 ° C, and the third – from +2 to + 8 ° C.
“However, there are now many vaccines that are in the final phase of clinical trials. The vaccine that we obtain will depend on the production time of this vaccine. Based on the information we have, Pfizer will produce 50 million vaccine doses by the end of 2020 , Modern – 20 million doses, and Astra Zeneka – 100 million doses When we submit the request for COVAX, we take into account the storage conditions that we can afford, so given the production capacity, it is expected to receive the vaccine from Astra Zeneka. But the exact answer to which vaccine from the manufacturer will enter Ukraine under the COVAX program, we will be able to receive only in January 2021, “said Kuzin.
Note that a plan for the vaccination of Ukrainians against coronavirus was approved today, according to him, they plan to start vaccination in January and intend to vaccinate 20 million people in a year. At the same time, only people from the so-called risk group are listed in the vaccination plan.
